I fell in love with Platon’s photography after watching “Abstract: The Art of Design” on Netflix. I was inspired by his process, his thinking and of course his photographs. I love how the sitter is captured in such a focused and bold way. The detail draws you in and makes you look closer.
Platon builds a real connection with his sitter so he can capture such a deep and truthful photograph.
The image below is the one I most relate to and am most inspired by. I love the greater meaning of this photograph - it was taken on his trip back home, back to Greece. He explored all the places he remembered from his childhood and how his upbringing impacted his photography. The white walls of the Grecian buildings inspired his strikingly white backgrounds from which his sitters emerge.
I love the lighting of this photograph. And the fact it is not cropped to the man. It is kept a landscape, making us imagine the vast sky above and the freedom the birds now have as they break into flight.
